Highland Knights Soccer Coaches Peruse Development Opportunity
Soccer Nova Scotia, Director of Coaching and Player Development, Mike Hudson was in Stellarton this past weekend along with HDSA Technical Director Shawn George and Regional Training Center, Provincial Coach, Lachlan Gillis, they ran a Provincial 'Pre B’ coaching course for coaches from the Highland region.

Several Highland Knights coaches took the opportunity to learn, and put their coaching skills to the test over an intense 3 days. The ‘Pre B’ coaching course is designed to help prepare coaches for the B License Program. This course allows coaches to learn more about coaching methodology and give them the opportunity to demonstrate some practical coaching competence before advancing to the B license part 1 at a later date.

Highland Knights Technical Rep, Mark Brennan said, “Developing a coach, is much like developing a player, it takes time. The Knights coaches here today are demonstrating their commitment to the development of our Tier 1 players by actively striving to be better coaches, this is the kind of commitment we are seeking as we build the club. I would like to congratulate and thank them for their commitment, I would also like to thank the players from our younger teams for being active participants, enabling the coaches to bring out their given topics for their assessments, they represented the club very well.”

All Tier 1 head coaches need to be certified by 2010 at the ‘Pre B’ level in order to coach in the Nova Scotia Soccer League next year. Knights coaches needing to upgrade their coaching certification can contact Shawn George, HDSA Technical Director at

Hart also gave a presentation on the state of the game in Canada. The two day annual symposium held at Soccer Nova Scotia in Halifax, covered many topics including the introduction of player development software by Shel Brodsgaard the former National Teams Goalkeeper Coach for the Canadian Soccer Association (2000-2006).  Shel also worked with the U13 Provincial girls team and the Provincial goalkeepers.
