Coaching Policy

Objective:

Highland Knights (HKSC) believes in strong coaching and coaching support.  To this end, HKSC will provide access to formal certification clinics. HKSC is also working to have a dedicated Technical Director to ensure constant and available coaching support during the entire year.  This commitment is made to benefit players, parents, coaches and all interested persons within HKSC.

By way of instruction, HKSC provides the following:

  • Youth Coaching Certification: Clinics provided in conjunction with Soccer Nova Scotia (SNS)
  • Advanced Coaching Opportunities: Clinics provided in conjunction with SNS and the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA).

Coach Selection

All Coaches will be required to submit and application. Coaching positions are OPEN to anyone who strive to achieve the goals of the Club. Final selection will be made by the Board, based on merit, commitment, desire, knowledge, experience and past track record.

Coaching Requirements

All teams require the full Community Coach Certificate (C.C. Youth & C.C. Senior or NCCP equivalent).

Teams not able to meet these credentials prior to the start of the season will need to submit a letter to Soccer Nova Scotia stating their intent to have the respective coach certified. Any teams not having the coach certified within 45 days after their first league game will have the team withdrawn from the league. This comes from a motion passed by the SNS Board of Directors in October 2002.

Note: It is CSA policy that all staff listed on a team roster of a Provincial Club Team attending CSA Nationals must be CIPC (Police check) cleared no later than the starting date of the respective CSA competition. In addition, all staff listed on a team roster attending any age/gender, Provincial or Regional Championship must be CIPC (Police check) cleared no later than the starting date of the respective competition.  Parents are not included in this policy.

Gender Representation

Every team (indoor and outdoor) will be required to have a team official (coach, asst, manager, asst manager) of the same gender as the team. This person will be the one to monitor locker room access/meetings, injury treatment, etc
