Development

In the Spring of 2007

The District/Clubs in Winnipeg will form teams in Divisions 9 and 8 (players born 1995, 1996) to play in a new Citywide Development-League operated by the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association (WYSA).

The purpose of this new Development-League is to provide an opportunity to develop players at a young age and give them the necessary technical skills and knowledge to play at a higher level in the future if they so choose.

The intent of the Development-League is to keep as many players as possible in the sport and provide as much professional training as possible to those who are interested in developing this skills and knowledge of the game.  This will allow for top training during the developmental years (the "Golden Year") of the kids.

Coaching Staff

In the past these players registered directly with Community Centres and the Community Centres designated volunteer coaches many of whom have no formal coaching training.

The Phoenix Soccer Club has enlisted the assistance of many former professional soccer players.  This includes nationally accredited coaching staff (NCCP).

Phoenix Soccer will be responsible for providing coaching staff.  All coaching staff shall be Nationally accredited and licensed with criminal record check reviews and child abuse registry clearance reports.

Volunteer (parent) assistant coaches will be considered, provided formal applications are made to Phoenix Soccer 661-1528.

All Phoenix coaches are required to either be NCCP Licensed or in the process of NCCP Licensing.  All coaches operating in our programmes are required to provide CPIC (criminal records check) and CAR clearance (Child Abuse Registry) and sign seasonal coaching agreements (costs paid for by the Club).

The intent is to provide players at this age (the Golden Age) with an opportunity for better training.  The process that Phoenix is using will ensure that players who want to commit to development at this level get the very best training available in a safe environment.

Team Composition

In the spirit of the recommended “Small-sided Games” development philosophy, teams will play the 9v9 format on three-quarter fields in a City-Wide League.

It is Phoenix’s intention to accommodate as many players who wish to experience this opportunity to play at this level, however, we will be limited by the roster size of 14 under the WYSA rules.  There may be a circumstance, because of the numbers that players would be required to return to the District Recreation House League.  Under these circumstances the decision as to who is returned shall be at the sole discretion of Phoenix Soccer, the WYSA District/Club Member for the Northeast Winnipeg District.

It is the intention of the Development League to for District/Clubs to field “balanced” teams (not tiered) playing against each other.  WYSA will “A”/”B” teams in level appropriate pools after the first half of the season if required.  Phoenix will attempt to initially form teams/player pools (players and coaching staff) that are as balanced as possible.  However, we may make changes in the teams/player pools (players and coaching staff) after the first few games if we determine there is a “gross imbalance”.

WYSA will schedule the first few games amongst our own team/player pools to allow us an opportunity to move players from one team/player pool to another if necessary.  We will attempt to arrange for players from similar areas (e.g. brothers, sisters, etc) of our District to play on the same teams/pools, but the main priority is to balance the teams in terms of ability.  Individual players may or may not get to “play with friends/family” on the same team/player pool and may find themselves playing on teams/pools with players out of their local “neighbourhood”.

All participating players are required to participate in an evaluation process administered by Phoenix Soccer.  We will post the names of the players and the number of teams on our webs site after evaluations are completed.

Registration

In order to register for the 2007 Outdoor Season, all players must register directly with Phoenix Soccer.   Players will be required to return the following to Phoenix Soccer:

1. Completed and signed registration form.

2. Photo of player with name on the back of the photo (small photo for player cards).

3. Cheque for the player registration fees for the 2007 outdoor fees (call 661-1528 for details).

For Spring 2007 Outdoor - All players wishing to register for the Development-League will be required to bring the above to the first evaluation (date time place to be announced) or dropped off before that date at (Anderson Park 900 Raleigh).  If we do not receive your registration information we will assume you are not playing in this League (call 661-1528 for details).

If you decide to not play for Phoenix Soccer in the Development League in Spring 2007, please contact your home Community Centre for March registration in the District Recreation House-League.

Updates, teams and information

We use our web site at www.PhoenixSoccer.ca as our primary communication method.  We will post teams on the web site once our coaches select them.

You will be contacted by your coach regarding the first team parent meeting, at which time, the team will be asking for a Team Manager and a Team Parent Rep. These volunteer positions are the two parent volunteer positions that must be filled by each team as they are an integral part of the Phoenix Soccer Club organization.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us (661-1528). Our contact information is on our web site.

We hope your kids enjoy their soccer season and the next level in their soccer experience and continue to love their soccer!
