CONGRATULATIONS – GILLES GAREAU

Phoenix’s very own Gilles Gareau (left in picture) was presented an award for "Outstanding Contribution" at the MSRA Banquet on Saturday October 15, 2005.

“I was honoured to receive such a prestigious award with such people in the room as Hector Vegera (Fifa referee), Mike DelaCruz and Darcy Konawalchuk (National named referees) and other celebrity referees.  It was also great that Dick Derrett talked not only about my work at the MSRA level but also about my contribution at the local Phoenix District level as well.”

Side bar: Both Gilles sons Tristan and Noel obtained their referee certificates this year and are keeping their dad on his toes.

Congratulations!  The Phoenix D5P Boys - are 2005 U16 Festival Of Soccer Champions - held in Saskatoon over the Victoria Day long weekend.

The team has many stories and great memories of the tournament to share.  The Saskatchewan officiating is definitely a challenge for teams used to Manitoba officiating!

Coach Mike Bruenig: - "In the Championship Match we were tied 1-1 after regulation play, still tied after two over-time periods, still tied after the first five penalty kicks, and yes we won the match in sudden death penalty kicks!  The players, coaches and parents were all excited - these words cannot describe the emotions that were felt - it was a great way to win - I hope the players will cherish the memories in the years to come.  I give this Championship to Wade Gibson - he is truly a great coach - His efforts gave a great start the 2005 Season for the Phoenix D5P Boys Team".
