Fair Play CUSA/COED/CWSA

Sportsmanship is an attitude that strives for fair play, courtesy towards team mates and opponents, ethical behavior and integrity and grace in victory or defeat. As the saying goes “it is not that you won or lost but how you played the game.”

Fair play is a way of thinking that embodies a number of values that are fundamental not only to sport but to everyday life.

Respect, friendship, team spirit, fair competition, respect for written and unwritten rules such as equality, integrity, solidarity, tolerance, care, excellence and joy are the basic premises of fair play that can be experienced and learned both on and off the field.

The Fair Play score for a team, and that you are asked to provide on a game sheet, is based on your opinion of the sportsmanship and fair play of the teams. However, below is a guideline that you may (or may not) choose to use to help you determine what you think the Fair Play score should be for any given team.

Fair Play Points 1- 4 (Poor)

Fair Play Points 5-7

(Average)

Fair Play Points 8-10

(Excellent)

·          No/poor control over emotions and actions.

·          No respect shown for opponents or referees.

·          Some control over emotions and actions

·          Occasionally no respect was shown for opponents and officials

·          Full control over emotions and actions towards opponents and officials

·          Everyone involved in the game was treated with respect

·          No verbal abuse

Please note:    in Co-Ed Red Soccer, point deductions for cards are done administratively and referees are not to make specific deductions for cards.  Cards may impact your decision around the fair play of a team; however, please do not deduct specific points for cards (as was done in previous seasons).
